john miyasaki
John Miyasaki (Director) is the sole founder and Artistic Director of the hereandnow theatre company. In 1984, Miyasaki began training at East West Players and worked in over 30 productions there over the ensuing 9 years. He also worked in Nobuko Miyamoto's "Talk Story." In 1990, he began the Asian American Theatre Project at UC Riverside and recently taught theatre at East Los Angeles College.
He recently directed "Romeo & Juliet Pinoy/Pinay Style, Letters to a Student Revolutionary" (Occidental College), the hereandnow national tour (which has toured over 100 U.S. cities), Boba Stories: Tales from the hereandnow kitchen, "fentor" (LA Weekly Pick of the Week), "A Nickel's Worth," as well as numerous play readings and festival performances.
For the past 10 years, Miyasaki also performed as a company member of children's theatre company, We Tell Stories. Miyasaki studied taiko with Seiichi Tanaka of the San Francisco Taiko Dojo over the course of six years, with East West Players.
